1. Who we are
Nur Prayer Times (“Nūr,” “the App”) is provided by ERT Investment LLC (“we,” “us,” or “our”). This policy explains how the iPhone app handles information. Nūr is an independent product and is not an official application of Quran Foundation, Apple, or OpenAI.
2. Information used by the App
Location
With your permission, Nūr uses approximate or precise device location to calculate prayer times and Qibla direction and to request nearby mosque results from Apple MapKit. You can instead choose a custom city. We do not store your device location on our servers.
Prayer, reading, and preference data
Notification choices, calculation settings, theme, language, Quran reading position, named khatms, and reading preferences are stored locally on your device. We do not require an account and do not receive this information.
Nur AI questions
When you submit a question to Nur AI, the question and recent messages needed to provide context are sent through our service to the OpenAI API. They are used only to provide the requested answer, maintain safety, prevent misuse, and operate the feature. We do not use this content for advertising or tracking and do not link it to an account because Nūr has no account system.
Voice search
If you choose voice search, the App uses Apple speech recognition to convert audio into text. Microphone and speech-recognition access are optional and requested only when you use the feature. The resulting text is treated like a typed Nur AI question.
Technical communications
Services contacted by the App may receive standard technical information needed to deliver a request, such as IP address, device and network information, timestamps, and requested content.
3. Quran Foundation content
Nūr uses Quran Foundation APIs and accesses content from the Quran.com ecosystem to provide Quran reading. Quran data is provided by Quran.Foundation. The App does not send your khatm progress or reading history to Quran Foundation. Quran Foundation may receive the technical information needed to deliver the page you request. Nūr does not modify the Quran text returned by the service and does not sell or separately redistribute Quran Foundation content.
4. Service providers
- Apple: iOS permissions, MapKit nearby search, notifications, widgets, and optional speech recognition.
- Quran Foundation: Quran text and related page data.
- OpenAI: Nur AI question processing. OpenAI states that API data is not used to train its models by default. API inputs and outputs may be retained for up to 30 days for abuse monitoring unless a different approved retention control applies.
These providers process information under their own terms and privacy policies. They are required to handle information lawfully and may not use Quranic content supplied through our integration to build advertising profiles, biometric identifiers, or machine-learning models.
5. Retention
Local settings and progress remain on your device until you change them, delete them, or remove the App. Our Nur AI proxy is designed not to create a conversation account or persist message content in application logs. OpenAI may retain API inputs and outputs for up to 30 days for safety and abuse monitoring, unless longer retention is legally required. We do not retain device location.
6. Security and incident response
We use transport encryption, access controls, least-privilege practices, and secret rotation appropriate to the services we operate. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure. In accordance with Quran Foundation developer requirements, including Security Rule 6.9, we maintain an incident process and will report an actual or suspected unauthorized access involving Quran Foundation APIs within 24 hours where required.
7. Your choices and rights
You can deny or revoke location, microphone, speech-recognition, and notification permissions in iPhone Settings. You can use a custom city instead of device location and can avoid Nur AI or voice search. Because Nūr does not create user accounts or store khatm progress on our servers, most app data can be removed by resetting app settings or deleting the App.
Depending on where you live, you may have rights to request access, correction, deletion, restriction, or information about personal data we control. Contact us to exercise those rights. We may need enough information to verify and respond to the request.
8. Children
Nūr is a general-audience religious utility and is not directed to children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child submitted personal information through Nur AI, contact us so we can address the request.
9. International processing and legal requirements
Service providers may process information in the United States or other countries. We may disclose information when required by law or when reasonably necessary to protect users, our services, or the rights and safety of others.
10. Changes
We may update this policy to reflect changes in the App, service providers, or law. The effective date above will identify the latest version.
